A blend that originated from Kyoto, Japan, it’s all in the name as “genmai” (brown rice kernels), are added to Sencha, to make the Genmaicha blend. With humble origins, this drink for poor farmers & city dwellers who couldn’t afford expensive blends, has risen to popularity & has won over the entire population.
Its gentle nature & the sweetness, combined with the starch from the rice that lowers its caffeine content, make it an easy tea to love. Brew it & you’ll find in the cup’s light-yellow hue, both the grassy green tea flavour, & the aroma of roasted rice.
Duration: 3-4 minutes
Temperature: 75C°-80C° No thermometer? Bring water to a boil, then cool for 2 minutes.
Amount: 2.5g or 1 tsp per cup
- If you like your tea brewed stronger or weaker, adjust the amount of tea leaves.
- Brewing your tea too long can extract an undesirable bitterness from the leaves
- Loose leaf tea can typically be steeped multiple times. However, each steeping will yield a slightly lighter flavor than the previous.
- To brew in a large teapot, increase the amount of loose leaf tea to match the total cups of water you’re using.
