Not only a wonderful drink but an elegant work of art as well.

Dragon Pearls, also called "Buddha’s Tears", are one of today's most prized jasmine teas, and began as a Chinese token of love by a smitten emperor, who wanted a superior tea to gift his beloved over 1300 years ago. Befitting of royalty!

This delicate tea is made from the highly prized young tea bud and its first two leaves, which are plucked in the first 3 weeks of spring.

Production is a long and involved process where each one is expertly hand-rolled into pearls, which are then mixed in with freshly picked jasmine flowers and left to absorb the flavor and aroma of the jasmine.

These night-blooming jasmine flowers are picked early each morning while the petals are still closed, and are mixed with the tea when they open at night. It is left to sit for around five hours, after which the flowers are removed and the tea is set to carefully dry for a few days.

This scenting process is repeated with fresh flowers for a total of six times, in the end producing this amazing tea that, in total, takes over a month to make.

1kg of Jasmine Dragon Pearl tea will take about 4kg of jasmine flowers during this arduous process.

When steeped, the pearls slowly unfurl into long needle shaped leaves, and brews into a gorgeous infusion with a heavenly floral aroma that lasts over many infusions.

It is best brewed in a glass vessel to watch and appreciate the skill, time and effort that goes into producing this variety.

BREWING GUIDE:
Duration: 1-3 minutes.
Temperature: 75C°- 80C° No thermometer? Bring water to a boil, then cool for 2 minutes.
Amount: 4 pearls per cup
Re-steep: 3-4 times

BREWING RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • If you like your tea brewed stronger or weaker, adjust the amount of tea leaves than what the brewing directions call for. Brewing your tea too long can extract an undesirable bitterness from the leaves
  • Loose leaf tea can typically be steeped multiple times. However, each steeping will yield a slightly lighter flavor than the previous.
  • To brew in a large teapot, increase the amount of loose leaf tea to match the total cups of water you’re using.
